TV Mounting in Las Vegas High-Rise Condos: Concrete, Steel and Building Rules
A condo on the 30th floor of a Strip-corridor tower has almost nothing structurally in common with a two-story house in Inspirada. Different walls, different anchors, different rules about when work can happen and who's allowed in the freight elevator. If you're mounting a TV in one of the towers along Las Vegas Boulevard, in Turnberry or Panorama or Veer or The Martin, in One Queensridge Place out west, or in a downtown loft building like the Ogden or Juhl, here's what actually changes.
Three Wall Types, Three Completely Different Jobs
Metal-stud partition walls
Most interior walls in a high-rise are light-gauge steel studs with drywall. They look and sound identical to wood-frame drywall from the outside, and they behave completely differently. A steel stud is a thin C-channel — a lag screw driven into one strips out and holds nothing. The correct approach is toggle bolts sized to the steel gauge, usually combined with a horizontal strut or backer spanning several studs so the load is shared rather than concentrated. This is standard, well-understood practice; it just isn't what's in the mount's box.
Concrete shear walls and columns
Structural concrete shows up as demising walls between units, around stair and elevator cores, and as columns. It's the strongest thing you can mount to. It also requires a rotary hammer, proper concrete anchors, and — critically — awareness of embedded rebar and post-tension cable. Which brings us to the one absolute rule.
Post-tension slabs: the one hard "no"
Many Las Vegas towers use post-tension concrete slabs, where steel tendons are tensioned inside the concrete after it cures. Drilling into a tendon is genuinely dangerous and structurally serious, and it's the reason most buildings restrict or prohibit drilling into ceilings and floor slabs outright. In practice this rarely affects a wall mount, but it absolutely affects ceiling-mounted projectors, in-ceiling speakers, and anything anchored overhead. If overhead work is part of your plan, the building's rules and the structural drawings govern, not the installer's preference.

Building Logistics Are Half the Job
Most towers here run a formal vendor process, and the appointment goes sideways when it isn't handled in advance:
- Certificate of insurance. Nearly every HOA or building management office requires a current COI on file naming the association, often submitted days ahead. This is the single most common reason a condo install gets bounced at the door.
- Work-hour windows. Many buildings restrict noisy work to weekday business hours. A rotary hammer on a concrete wall is unambiguously noisy work.
- Freight elevator reservations. Some buildings require booking the service elevator, and won't let tools or a TV box up the passenger elevators.
- Loading dock and parking. Practical, but it's the difference between arriving on time and circling a garage.
- Common-area protection. Floor protection in corridors and elevators is often a written requirement.

Cable Concealment in a Concrete Building
Metal-stud partition walls have cavities and are usually fishable, so in-wall concealment works much like it does in a house — with the caveat that steel studs have factory knockouts in specific places and horizontal bridging that dictates the cable path. Concrete walls have no cavity at all, so the options are a surface raceway, routing through an adjacent partition wall, or coming up through a credenza. Floor-to-ceiling glass, which is the whole point of a high-rise unit, also means fewer walls to work with in the first place.
The Glass Problem Nobody Mentions
Strip-view units are mostly window, and that creates two real issues worth planning around: there are often only one or two walls where a TV can physically go, and the glare off a wall of west-facing glass in the afternoon can wash out a screen completely. A tilting mount, careful angle selection relative to the windows, and honest expectations about daytime viewing all matter more here than in a typical house.
Short-Term Rental and Investment Units
A lot of Las Vegas condos are rented out. If that's your situation, two things are worth building in: security hardware so the TV isn't easily removed, and simplifying the control setup so guests can operate everything without calling you. Our remote setup guide covers the second part.

Can a projector be ceiling-mounted in a high-rise?
Sometimes, but it's the question to ask the building first. Many towers use post-tension concrete slabs where drilling into the ceiling is restricted or prohibited outright, for good structural reasons. There are usually wall-mounted or short-throw alternatives.
